Every country has its own iconic attraction or natural wonder that every tourist knows and wants to visit. If you hear about my travel in Australia you would not miss Ayers Rock or the Sydney Opera House would you? You would not go to Paris without at the very least a fleeting glimpse of the Eiffel Tower or the Arc de Triomphe.
Of course not, because these famous landmarks are so well known throughout the world for a reason and every person should try to visit at least some point in their life.
And yet there are some very well kept secrets when it comes to wonders of the world, ones which never fail to amaze those who discover the secret and decide to visit. The Jeita Grotto, one of the finalists for the seven natural wonders of the world is only twenty minutes from Beirut and is a wondrous labyrinth of caves filled with stalactites and stalagmites.
Baalbek in the Bekaa valley is another Lebanese attraction not to be missed, some of the best preserved Roman ruins in the world and yet few people have heard of it outside classical circles.
It is worth taking the time to look around and see what some of these countries have to offer, countries which we might not normally visit on holiday and yet which are home to a wealth of wonders if only you take the effort.
